Are You Carrying the Sister Wound?

And Is It Quietly Shaping Your Life?

There’s a quiet ache many women, myself included, carry.

It doesn’t always announce itself with sharp pain, although it comes that way as well. Sometimes, it whispers through comparison, flickers in moments of mistrust, or hides in the parts of us that over give, hoping to be seen as enough.

This is the Sister Wound, not always loud, but often lingering.

And its presence can shape how we relate to other women… and to ourselves.

If you recognise these patterns, you may be experiencing the trauma of the sister wound.

Unconscious Comparison and Jealousy that Arises like a Reflex

Imagine you are attending an event where you don't know anyone attending. You enter the room and are surrounded by a plethora of immaculately presented, radiant women, and suddenly, you shrink.

Your feel a tightness in your chest, your throat begins to close up and your stomach feels heavy

The voice inside says, “What do I have to offer,” or “I'll never be able to compete.”

Or perhaps you are scrolling on social media and you see a success story post. The smiling face shining back at you is celebrating how they've made 6 figures this month, have quit their job and now live exclusively in an island paradise.

Do you feel an instant pang of jealousy? Or begin to diminish your own achievements? Do you unconsciously find yourself criticising her for something or trying to diminish her achievements

These moments aren’t rooted in your truth, they’re echoes of a deeper wound.

A wound that tells us there’s only room for one woman to rise.

But sisterhood was never meant to be a competition. An we have the ability to rewrite our story.

Mistrust and Guardedness with Other Women

Have you ever felt that it’s just easier to trust men? Or that female friendships are… tricky?

Maybe you’ve had friendships that ended in betrayal. Or you were taught through experience that women gossip, compete, or judge.

So you learnt to keep your distance, or keep parts of yourself hidden. To not speak your truth, just in case you were judged and found wanting. Your system was doing its best to keep you safe.

This pattern often stems from generations of unhealed pain between women, born in a world that taught us to fear rather than trust each other.

Where we are told we have to be "pretty" to attract a mate, and that other women are our competition.

But true sisterhood is built on safety, not suspicion.

Over-Giving or People-Pleasing in Female Spaces

Do you find yourself over-extending in women’s circles, workplaces, or friendships, needing to be liked, needed, or praised?

Do you attach yourself to the women you believe to be popular, diminishing your light whilst simultaneously trying to brighten hers?

This can be another mask of the Sister Wound: “If I give more, I’ll be safe. If I’m perfect, they won’t turn on me. If I’m needed, I won’t be abandoned.”

But wholeness comes not from being everything to everyone, it comes from being true to yourself.

These Patterns Are Not Who You Are

They are coping strategies.

Inherited. Conditioned. Sometimes protective.

But not the full truth of who you are.

The truth is, you were made for sacred sisterhood. For the kind of connection that feels like coming home.

For friendships where you are safe to shine and fall apart in equal measure.

And the first step?

Noticing where the Sister Wound might still be writing your story and choosing a new one.
